I have raised my children on West Saratoga Street, where all five attended Ferndale Public Schools. I quickly learned this is a community that encourages involvement. I embraced that philosophy and am proud to say that I have served as a community volunteer and elected official, on the City Council and Board of Education, for over a decade. With years of commitment and dedication to my community, I have applied all I learned through my years of public service.

Experience Matters

Seeing the importance of good governance as a School Board Trustee, I was willing to further invest in my community to serve on Ferndale’s City Council. I am grateful that the voters twice elected me to this important position, where I maintain a fair, thoughtful, and independent stance when tough decisions are brought before us.  I have served as the City Council liaison for several boards and commissions.  I now ask voters to trust my experienced leadership and support me as I run for Mayor of Ferndale.

I have championed efforts toward affordable and accessible housing, advocating for use of qualifiers for adjusted median income. I am proud that during my tenure Ferndale was designated a Michigan Communities for a Lifetime.

I am a strong advocate for equity and inclusion, helping establish the yearly Juneteenth Celebration, and I am proud that Ferndale now raises the Pan African flag and Pride flag in yearly ceremonies. I championed the Ban the Box policy and supported the ordinance to ban conversion therapy for minors.  I support Ferndale’s anti-racism declaration along with ongoing DEI training for our staff. I work to seek out voices that need to be heard.

As the first Black councilwoman in Ferndale, I have discovered how important it is to have leaders who represent and embrace the diversity of our city, and I am proud to be part of Ferndale’s historic moment in electing its first black Mayor.
